Senior Policy Advisor

About the role

We have an opportunity for a Senior Policy Advisor to join the NHVR’s Network Access team. At a high level, the position aims to reduce obstacles for industry and plays an important part in freight and supply logistics in Australia.

You will liaise internally with our legal team and road managers, and consult externally with relevant jurisdictions and industry stakeholder groups, to develop policies aligned with our strategic objectives.

With two direct reports, you will apply your technical knowledge of the Australian heavy vehicle industry to enhance current policies and produce high quality material to support the industry.

Interstate travel may be required on occasion (two to three times per year).

About You

You will be passionate about social impact and apply your skills and experience to solving systemic problems. You will have:

• Experience in a similar position, demonstrating your practical experience developing and implementing national notices and policies.
• High level motivation and demonstrated creativity and out of the box thinking, thriving on solving complex technical matters through collaboration.
• Ability to work independently and effectively contribute in a team environment.
• Experience in managing multiple projects and competing priorities; demonstrating strong planning, time management and prioritisation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in the heavy vehicle is a definite advantage, however not essential.
• Experience working with road managers, Local Government Associations (LGAs) and a technical background in GIS are all advantageous.

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and develop strong stakeholder relationships across multiple sources, leveraging these relationships to seek the appropriate advice and information required to inform decisions, overcome challenges and negotiate outcomes.
