Demonstrate your proven ability within soil & rock mechanics/engineering geology as a Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer. Join the Mine Engineering & Stability (MES) team from any of our Australian offices and collaborate with industry leading professionals working on open pit & underground mining projects.

What you’ll do: 

• Leading and managing consulting services for open pit and or underground mining projects, both in Australian and internationally. 
• Delivering technically appropriate and cost-effective solutions to clients which meet time, budget, quality and safety requirements; 
• Manage quality control and risk during geotechnical and design work, including critical review of results in consultation with internal stakeholders. 
• Maintain existing client relationships and develop new business opportunities. 
• Compile or review technical proposals and design work packages. 
• Mentor junior and intermediate staff with respect to their career growth and professional development. 
• Participate in performance reviews and training decisions. 
• Participate in development and implementation of WSP’s mining strategy. 
• Work collaboratively with other senior members of the Global Mining team to implement the business growth strategy, develop, and maintain relationships with a broad client base. 
• Promote a safety-first culture at WSP. 

About you: 

• Extensive relevant (post-degree) experience working in a consulting engineering or mining industry environment. 
• An undergraduate or post-graduate degree in mine geotechnical engineering or engineering geology. 
• Professional membership of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) or Engineers Australia with Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) accreditation. 
• Expertise in soil and rock mechanics/engineering geology. 
• Excellent technical writing skills, interpersonal communication, and emotional intelligence. 
• Proven ability to establish and maintain solid client relationships. 
• Experience in the application of advanced geotechnical/geological modelling software including Rocscience, Map3D, Itasca, Plaxis, Vulcan, and LeapFrog. 
• Ability to manage risk. 
• Excellent engineering judgement. 
• Ability to effectively delegate work and assist in leading diverse, interdisciplinary project teams. 
• Business acumen and leadership.
