The Opportunity

Helix Engineering is currently searching for a 'Senior Site Mechanical Project Engineer’ to be part of our strong team that loves challenges and is dedicated to delivering quality and on-time solutions and services to our customers. This unique opportunity is open for a skill-qualified, hardworking, and quality-conscious mechanical engineer who has a passion for technical excellence. The candidate shall also have a desire to further develop their experience in delivering multi-disciplinary projects in a progressive engineering organisation.

As an experienced site engineer, you will play an integral role in delivering mechanical/piping/materials handling projects. This role will give you the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, in particular the delivery of a multi-discipline project in Kwinana, Western Australia, which is about to commence. 

You will also be required to provide mechanical engineering advice, reviews and approvals whilst maintaining the high standards of delivery excellence established by the team. At Helix Engineering, we support exposure to a variety of types of work from asset management and strategic concept design through to construction support and commissioning.  

Minimum Requirements

This role is strategically important to our future growth. We are looking for someone who has a can-do attitude, who is consultative, able to prioritise their work and get things done. The successful candidate will be a team player, and able to work with a range of stakeholders including influencing senior leaders.

  • Experience working on site
  • Knowledge of permit to work systems and co-ordinating prestart meetings
  • Reviewing and assessing variation claims
  • 10 -15 years’ experience in the field of project engineering and mechanical engineering design, construction and commissioning.
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering 
  • Demonstrated business development experience in relevant projects within a dynamic consulting and design environment
  • Proven examples of work within water and/or wastewater treatment plants, pump station and pipeline mechanical design or materials handling facilities
  • Knowledge of completing tenders and developing accurate proposals for potential clients
  • Substantial site experience including inspections to scope projects, construction and commissioning
  • Proven experience in water pipeline design in a variety of materials would be an advantage. Your experience would include route selection, creek, road and rail crossings, pipeline restraint, fatigue analysis as well as the coordination of survey and geotechnical investigations
  • Familiar with appropriate mechanical drafting, and 3D mechanical design software (desirable)

The right candidate will ideally possess

  • Hands-on experience in mass balance / design basis / equipment sizing / PFD / P&ID / FDs.
  • Experience in detailed design, equipment selection, and development of specifications applicable to water and wastewater conveyance and treatment (desirable)
  • Ability to submit technical reports to a high standard requiring minimal correction, and provide final review of medium sized project reports
  • Consult with our clients in an effective and professional manner
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, team members and peers.
  • Leadership experience managing a multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards and compliance requirements
  • 10-15 years of experience in a multidiscipline engineering team delivering EPC projects
  • A track record of coordinating and completing successful projects
  • Be willing to travel to and work on site when required
