We’re seeking an experienced Senior System Administrator to support the delivery and ongoing operation of a secure, high-availability platform across Linux and AWS environments. This role covers system administration, security implementation, automation, and performance monitoring, with a strong focus on reliability, stability, and compliance. Ideal candidates will bring deep expertise in Red Hat Linux, AWS services, and automation tools such as Ansible, with additional strengths in areas like Apache NiFi, Essential Eight-aligned security practices, and database administration (MySQL/DynamoDB) considered highly desirable.

Applicants should be prepared to complete a suitability assessment process, which includes a questionnaire and interview. NV2 clearance is a pre-requisite for this role.

This is a 12 month contract role.

What you'll do:

  • Support the delivery and ongoing operation of a secure, high-availability Linux and AWS platform
  • Administer, maintain, and monitor Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems, including patching, configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Manage AWS infrastructure including EC2, Lambda, S3, backup services, workloads, and security controls
  • Implement and maintain security controls aligned with organisational policies and Essential Eight practices
  • Develop and enhance automation and orchestration workflows using Ansible and Semaphore
  • Monitor system health and performance using tools such as Grafana and the ELK stack, supporting incident response activities
  • Document technical processes in accordance with organisational standards and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team
  • Assist with continuous improvement by refining operational procedures and supporting process enhancements
  • Provide support for secure government environments, including compliance with ASD and Defence security policies and change management requirements
  • Administer and support Apache NiFi clusters, including configuration, data flow management, and troubleshooting (desirable)
  • Support database administration and tuning activities for MySQL and DynamoDB (desirable)
  • Participate in Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) process as required

What you'll bring:

  • Experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems in production environments
  • Experience with AWS services including EC2, Lambda, S3, and backup services, with a focus on reliability and security
  • Strong hands-on experience with automation/orchestration tools such as Ansible and Semaphore
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools including Grafana and the ELK stack
  • Experience operating within secure government or Defence environments (desirable)
  • Knowledge of implementing and maintaining Essential Eight security controls (desirable)
  • Experience administering and supporting Apache NiFi (desirable)
  • Familiarity with database administration and tuning for MySQL and DynamoDB (desirable)
  • Ability to meet ASD’s Organisational Suitability Assessment requirements
  • Must hold NV2 or TSPV security clearance (ASD will not sponsor upgrades)
  • Ability to work onsite up to 40 hours per week in Canberra ACT or Brisbane QLD
  • Senior-level capability aligned to EL1 responsibilities and expectations
