ING Australia's Risk Management team is looking to hire a Senior Technical Lead within our Risk Reporting & Analytics function, based in our Sydney office.

As the Senior Technical Lead , you will play a critical role in engineering, automating, and governing the data and analytics capabilities that support our Risk Intelligence environment. You'll work closely with analysts, developers, senior stakeholders, and technology teams to design and deliver solutions that are robust, scalable, and aligned with ING's global standards.

We're looking for a hands-on technical leader with strong data engineering depth, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to guide and influence others while remaining close to technology.

If you're ready to take the next step in your technical career, leading, coaching, building, and shaping risk data solutions-we'd love to hear from you.

Ready to make an impact?

What you'll do
  • Lead the technical direction of key data engineering and analytics initiatives within Risk.
  • Remain hands-on across SQL Server, SSIS, SAS, Python, and PowerShell, setting coding standards, conducting code reviews, and mentoring analysts and developers.
  • Act as the central liaison between Risk, Line 1, and Technology-translating business needs into high-quality, sustainable data solutions.
  • Provide independent review and challenge of Line 1 proposals, technical designs, and documentation.
  • Design, optimise and harden ETL/ELT processes with a focus on performance, traceability, lineage, data quality controls, reconciliations, monitoring and alerting.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual or fragmented processes, and simplify legacy workflows.
  • Champion data governance practices including metadata, lineage, change control, versioning, and data quality KPIs/SLAs.
  • Contribute to ING's data standards, taxonomy harmonisation and model/report traceability frameworks.
  • Strengthen governance and operational readiness through clear documentation, controls and audit preparedness.
  • Ensure adherence to ING policies and complete mandatory training across risk management, information security and reporting governance.

What we're looking for
  • Tertiary qualification in finance, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years' experience in Risk, Finance, or data engineering/analytics roles within financial services.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server, SSIS, and SAS, with practical experience using Python and PowerShell for automation and workflow orchestration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines including performance tuning, lineage, reconciliations, data quality controls, monitoring and documentation.
  • Experience simplifying legacy ETL or robotics processes, and an understanding of how to migrate UDAs into governed platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance principles including metadata, stewardship, data quality frameworks, and change control.
  • Proven leadership capability-able to mentor junior staff, guide technical decisions, and drive cross-functional delivery.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and structured business documentation such as BRDs, FRDs, test scripts and control designs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to challenge, influence, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

What's in it for you?
  • Discounted ING Health Insurance
  • An additional Rest Day to support your wellbeing
  • An IMPACT Day to volunteer on approved sustainability activity
