AEMO at the Heart of Energy

AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians.  Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.

Victorian Power Systems Analysis is a division within the System Design department which is focused on efficient planning and development of the Victorian Electricity Transmission Network in partnership with VicGrid.

Victorian System Integration and Control is a team of Power Systems and Protection engineers responsible for delivering quality network planning analysis and technical advisory services for the Victorian Declared Shared Network to ensure that the investment needed as the power system transitions to achieve net zero emissions can be reliably and securely integrated in the existing network.

Play a key role in Victoria's evolving energy landscape, supported by an experienced leader and a team committed to learning, collaboration and success. Hybrid and flexible working, multiple locations, great team and benefits. Guide engineers through mentoring, technical review and quality checks. Planning expertise with strong PSSE, steady state and dynamic studies.

About the role

As the Senior/Principal Engineer in the Victorian System Integration and Control team, you will lead the development and maintenance of critical network and remedial action scheme models, delivering complex power system modelling and analysis that supports network investment, project integration and inter-network testing. You will play a key role in ensuring the safe, secure and reliable operation of Victoria's power system, contribute to transmission network limit development, support network operability initiatives, and provide technical leadership and mentoring across the wider engineering team.

We're looking for a technically strong leader with expertise in transmission planning and advanced power system studies, including steady state and dynamic analysis using tools such as PSSE. Success in this role will come from your ability to provide thorough technical review, mentor and develop engineers, and ensure the delivery of high quality, accurate outcomes across complex projects.

You'll join a highly collaborative team led by a supportive and approachable manager who values knowledge sharing, professional development and creating an environment where people can do their best work. This is a great opportunity to contribute your expertise while helping to grow the capability of others across the team.

What you will be doing

You will lead and review complex analysis of Victoria's transmission network using specialised power system simulation tools, providing technical advice and recommendations that support network investment, project integration, system operability and augmentation projects.

The role will involve overseeing internetwork testing, commissioning activities, network limit equations and special control schemes, while ensuring high quality and timely outcomes that support the safe, secure and reliable operation of the power system. You will mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers across the team, prepare clear and influential reports, presentations and operational advice, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support planning, system integration and policy outcomes across the Victorian network.

This position is being offered as a leave backfill, initially for 12 months, with the potential to extend to 18 months. The position can be worked out of office locations in Melbourne – preferred location, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Only current Senior/Principal level engineers will be considered for this position.
