The role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Fitter/Plant Mechanic to join our Aftermarket Mechanical Cutting team at our Heatherbrae facility. The role will required you to perform high quality assessments and repairs of various Sandvik components. Strip, assess and overhaul Underground Mining equipment, and complete general workshop duties as required. Working within our Aftermarket Section, previous experience of Miner/ Roadheader, Overhaul/ Rebuild/ Maintenance and Breakdown Fault Finding is desirable.

To be successful you will be able to demonstrate technical understanding of Sandvik equipment. As well as having an applied proactive approach to your work to ensure job timelines are met with safety and quality of work as key, will assist our customers to meet desired scheduling and deadlines.

As a technician in the Mechanical Cutting section, you will be performing strip and assessment, inspections, overhaul and rebuild of Sandvik Bolter Miners, commissioning of underground machinery and repairs on a range of specialist mining equipment. Including but not limited to:

  • MB650/670 Sandvik Miners
  • MT720 Sandvik Roadheaders
  • Strip and Overhaul of Mechanical Cutting equipment
  • Hydraulics – strip, assess, rebuild and commission of Hydraulic systems

To support you and further knowledge within the role, we will supply product training and the support of our dedicated products support personnel.

The role will work on a 4 day roster from Heatherbrae Site.

Potential of a rotating Day and Afternoon Shift for the right candidate.

Areas of responsibility

  • To perform work in a safe manner in a team environment.
  • Adhere to all Sandvik EHS and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintenance and Servicing Equipment.
  • Plan for correct tools and parts required to perform tasks, according to work procedures.
  • Commissioning of products that includes incoming inspections, quality inspections and commissioning of Underground Cutting Machinery.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and solve common problems, as a first line support.
  • Understands system functionality and interactions of hydraulics /mechanics/ electrics/ automation/ pneumatics/materials.
  • Complete maintenance reports for internal and external stakeholders e.g., report and document on maintenance and/or repairs completed.
  • Assigns simple tasks to junior staff and guides them in completing them.
  • Ensures that routine work procedures (using the tools provided), are carried out according to safety standards.
  • Adhere to all policies & procedures especially the EHS policies.
  • Work effectively either in a team environment or autonomously.

Your profile

  • Relevant Trade Qualification is desirable or relevant work experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License (compulsory).
  • Forklift license.
  • Dogmen / Rigger Ticket – desirable.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Flexible to work with customer requirements, procedures, and safety policies.
  • Positive attitude and a high level of determination to achieve targets set for customer satisfaction.
  • Attention to detail and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • You are proactive self-motivated and demonstrate initiative.
  • Ability to learn and use digital mobile tools and applications.
