Job Description - Settlements Analyst

We have a vacancy for a Settlement Analyst to join our team in Melbourne. This role is crucial to the financial integrity of our operations, ensuring that the complex value generated by our trading strategies is accurately captured, reconciled, and settled. You will be the bridge between market operations and financial outcomes, managing the end-to-end settlement process for NEM market transactions, LGC creation, and bespoke contract arrangements like PPAs and Virtual Tolls.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional who thrives in the intersection of energy markets and financial data. You will work closely with our traders, clients, finance and technical teams to ensure that our automated systems and manual processes result in precise financial reporting and compliance. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a background in energy settlements or financial operations to play a key role in the clean energy transition within a high-growth tech environment.

You will be responsible for:

  • Reconciliation & Dispute Management: Identifying discrepancies between internal trading data and AEMO/Counterparty statements; documenting and submitting formal disputes to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Settlement Performance Reporting: Delivery or weekly and monthly reports to clients on asset performance, actual trading revenues (market or contract), and warranty conditions. Performance monitoring of trading outcomes and client portfolios. Analysis of the NEM to understand fundamental drivers of market characteristics.
  • Client Portal Data Delivery: Partnering to scope and define data requirements for the client portal, ensuring that settlement data and performance reports are delivered accurately and intuitively to meet client needs and maintain high levels of user satisfaction.
  • Data Integrity: Maintaining and updating internal systems that handle metering data and settlement calculations to ensure they reflect the latest market rules and contract terms.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Providing clear updates to clients regarding their financial obligations, call notices, and the financial impacts of settlement outcomes.
  • Audit Preparation: Maintaining meticulous records of settlement activities and LGC deliveries for regulatory audits and compliance reviews.
  • Asset Onboarding Coordination: Leading the settlement and reporting workstream for onboarding new assets; collaborating with internal and external teams to collect and validate site connection details, operational parameters, and registration information required for market participation.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Proven experience as a Settlement Analyst, Billing Analyst, or in a similar financial operations role within the energy or commodities sector.
  • Strong understanding of the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM), including AEMO settlement cycles and prudential requirements, AEMO’s MMS portal and MarketNet systems.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Proficiency in Excel and data management tools; ability to perform complex reconciliations across disparate data sources. Comfortable working with analysis packages that are python based. Capability to query relational databases and visualise results in business intelligence tools.
  • Attention to Detail: A rigorous approach to accuracy, especially when dealing with high-value financial transactions and regulatory deadlines.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to communicate technical financial discrepancies clearly to both internal traders and external client counterparts.
  • Familiarity with Software Development: Comfortable working with technical teams to improve settlement automation and reporting tools (experience with JIRA is a plus).

‘Nice to have’ skills and experience:

  • Experience with PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) structures and virtual tolling arrangements.
  • Experience with Environmental Markets, specifically the creation, registration, and transfer of LGCs via the REC Registry.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • Experience with project management, operations or financing for renewables, battery storage and hybrid assets in the NEM.
  • Experience with linear optimisation programming.
