SM Assurance Program & Reporting

Job Description - SM Assurance Program & Reporting

You’re curious and open to learning and finding new ways of doing things.

You're all about the detail and this role will allow you to drive evidence-based decision making to optimise systems and efficiency, not just for the business but for our customers too. It's data and research with impact you can see.

In this role, you'll:

You’ll lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive environment, sustainability, planning and interface (ESP&I) assurance framework, ensuring the organisation has the systems, policies and processes in place to meet its regulatory and operational obligations. By establishing clear performance measures, KPIs and reporting frameworks, you’ll provide confidence to senior leadership that ESP&I responsibilities are effectively managed, while driving consistency and best practice across the organisation.

You’ll take a data-led approach to monitoring performance, delivering insights through dashboards, reporting and analysis that highlight risks, emerging issues and opportunities for improvement. You’ll support the business by identifying and addressing risks across programs of work, providing practical advice and interventions that strengthen environmental and sustainability outcomes. Alongside this, you’ll oversee the development and maintenance of management frameworks, documentation, templates and procedures to ensure compliance and alignment with organisational and regulatory requirements.

A key part of your role will be building capability across the organisation, supporting leaders to embed assurance practices and improve understanding of their ESP&I accountabilities. You’ll drive education, awareness and knowledge-sharing initiatives, while also leading relationships with regulators and key stakeholders to support compliance and performance outcomes. As a senior leader, you’ll provide high-quality advice and briefings to executives and lead a team to deliver a trusted, proactive assurance function that contributes to sustainable and high-performing infrastructure outcomes.

About you

You’re an experienced and purpose-driven leader with a strong background in environmental management, sustainability or planning within a complex infrastructure or delivery environment. You bring demonstrated experience designing and implementing assurance frameworks and environmental management systems, with a clear understanding of regulatory requirements and how to embed them into operational practice.

You’re highly analytical and comfortable working with performance data, with the ability to develop meaningful metrics, interpret insights and translate them into clear advice for decision-makers. You bring a strong understanding of risk management and governance, and you’re skilled at identifying issues early and implementing practical solutions that improve performance and compliance outcomes.

You’re an effective communicator and relationship builder, able to influence and support stakeholders at all levels to adopt assurance practices and strengthen capability. You thrive in complex, fast-paced environments and are motivated by driving continuous improvement and sustainable outcomes. With relevant tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience), you bring the leadership capability to guide and develop a high-performing team and deliver assurance outcomes that support the organisation and the communities it serves.
