The Core Publishing team is a cornerstone of Nine’s digital ecosystem, engineering the critical applications that power our primary revenue streams. We are seeking a seasoned engineer to develop and scale the INK APIs and services that deliver content and navigation for Australia’s most iconic mastheads, including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review, Good Food, and Travel.

What You Will Be Doing

In this role, you will work alongside distinguished engineers within small, autonomous Agile squads, contributing directly to architectural decisions and overall system designs.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Build & Scale: Develop and maintain high-quality, auto-scaling microservices and APIs servicing our massive web and app audiences.

• Code Excellence: Write clean, maintainable, and testable code while conducting peer code reviews to ensure industry best practices.

• System Optimization: Continuously optimize existing systems for maximum efficiency, speed, and reliability.

• Collaborate: Partner with other technology teams and business stakeholders to build the best possible product experiences.

• Cross-Skill: Embrace a T-shaped skill set by cross-skilling across DevOps, Security, Testing, and Architecture.

• Innovate: Work with a modern tech stack including Golang, AWS, Google Cloud, gRPC, Postgres, Kafka, Docker, GraphQL, and more.

• Mentor & Share: Mentor and guide junior engineers, foster a collaborative learning environment, and share your technical knowledge with the wider team.

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for a self-starter who is passionate about engineering excellence and motivated to help guide the technical direction of our microservices landscape.

• Experience: 5+ years of experience building and maintaining high-throughput microservices and APIs.

• Tech Stack: Strong experience with Golang programming.

• Architecture: A solid understanding of software architecture, design principles, and modern backend best practices.

• Cloud & DevOps: A "Cloud-First" mindset with proven experience in DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines (AWS/GCP).

• Security & Quality: A security-oriented approach to development and a strong focus on testing and code quality.

• Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and influencing skills, paired with a genuine passion for mentoring and a strong desire to learn.
