About the role

At Origin, we’re in the process of transforming the way we serve our customers to make sure we’re providing outrageously good experiences for both our customers and our staff. You will be joining Origin at a critical time as we start to ramp up the numbers of customers serviced by the new Kraken platform we’re building in collaboration with Octopus Energy.

As a Senior Developer, you’ll build, test & maintain core capabilities and features on RetailX digital platforms to support MyAccount, Mobile App, Metering & Customer Identity platforms serving our customers. You’ll work closely with Origin Retail X energy specialists, digital teams, Octo delivery teams and other vendors.

Key responsibilities

• Software analysis, design and development
• Quality Assurance through test automation and test-driven development
• CI/CD: continuous integration and continuous deployment through automation of builds and deployment scripts
• Work with Origin & Octo teams to understand requirements & acceptance criteria for user stories
• Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand ups, grooming, kick-off, walkthrough, showcases & retrospectives).

Wha t will you bring?   

• Demonstrated experience with Java & JavaScript languages & related frameworks (such as Spring Boot etc)
• Demonstrated experience with HTML5/CSS3 & React frameworks
• Demonstrated experience building Restful or GraphQL APIs
• Demonstrated experience in automating UI & API testing
• Experience with event driven / async development such as SQS, RabbitMQ or Kafka
• Solid understanding of databases & SQL
• Solid understanding of the CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
• Experience with applications deployed on AWS
