Our areas of work include compensation for victims of abuse in church institutions, schools, government run children’s homes, juvenile detention centres and the Australian Defence Force. We also provide legal audit advice to the NSW Department of Communities and Justice.
Role
We are seeking a permanent full-time Solicitor, Graduate Solicitor, or Law Graduate that is looking to be admitted in 2025, to join our team.
You will become well versed in personal injury, child protection laws, criminal law victims, compensation, and all while honing your skills in legal research and writing, advocacy and statutory interpretation.
This area of work is extremely rewarding and meaningful, where you will be an integral member of the team, assisting survivors of abuse. The role will include:
- High level of autonomy in matters, with support and guidance from the Senior Partner
- Undertaking legal research
- Drafting documents (Victim Statements, Subpoenas, Statements of claim)
- Liaising with clients and defendants
- Preparation of written advices on the legal rights of children who have been assumed into State care
- Drafting submissions for victims compensation applications and administrative reviews
Please note this position involves a high level of exposure to material that has sexually explicit and violent content.
About you
- Strong eye for detail and understanding of victims compensation entitlements
- Solid analytical skills to put together arguments accompanied by strong written skills
- Positive outlook and can-do attitude
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple cases simultaneously
- Experience in online court registries, or willingness to learn
- Passion for helping victims of abuse, with an empathic approach
- Highly organised and excellent time management, with the ability to effectively time record
- Able to demonstrate initiative and pro-active problem solving skills
