About the role We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Senior Payroll Officer (12-month Contract – Parental Leave cover) to join one of Australia’s leading Superannuation Funds. As a key member of the Corporate Financial Control Team, the Senior Payroll Officer will provide support across a range of activities within the team.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the role will assist across the Finance Control Team to support financial operations and controls, compliance obligations and end to end processing of the fortnightly employee payroll and monthly directors’ payroll, ensuring that staff all and director remuneration is accurate and timely.
You will be accountable but not limited to - Accurately processes the periodic pay runs for staff and directors of Cbus Trustee office
- Demonstrates detailed understanding of company structure, staff positions and associated EBA/Award/Agreements and statutory obligations relating to the Cbus staffing structure
- Accurately maintains staff master record details (including onboarding and offboarding) in the payroll system
- Identifying and managing any superannuation cap requirements for senior staff and for directors with different income streams
- Calculation and reconciliation of monthly payroll tax and superannuation payments, including assistance with GL allocations
Other payroll statutory reporting - Supporting the Financial Controller and HRIS Specialist with completion of statutory payments such as FBT, superannuation, state payroll taxes and other statutory reporting to the ABS and ATO
- Assisting with the preparation of payroll report for distribution relevant managers, Heads-of and compliance teams
- Preparation and processing of other statutory payments such as payroll taxes, employee deductions, Centrelink, ABS and ATO documentation
Payroll data integrity - Assist with reconciliation of payroll payments for external reporting, including disclosures in the Financial Statements and Cbus website
- Assist with reconciliation of payroll data, such as fortnightly payroll, leave liability and FBT liability journals to the general ledger
- Prepares, balances & reconciles payroll, PAYE, FBT, Superannuation, Workers Compensation & other statutory payments
To be successful in this role you come with - End-to-end Payroll experience with strong background in a medium/large corporate or professional service environment
- Comprehensive technical knowledge of Payroll systems, PAYG, Payroll Tax, FBT, salary sacrificing and superannuation, statutory frameworks, and legislative requirements
- Comprehensive experience working with CHRIS21 Payroll systems (including employee self-service), with at least 5 years’ experience in payroll
- Technical knowledge of Payroll systems, PAYG, Payroll Tax, FBT, salary sacrificing and superannuation, statutory frameworks, and legislative requirements
- Ability to interpret EBA and employment contract provisions and understand the practical implications of such application
- A self-starter with very high levels of autonomy, a disciplined approach to work and the ability to make well considered administration decisions
- Highly developed communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to apply a high level of judgment and initiative to financial data
- Ability to liaise effectively with personnel and stakeholders at all levels
