ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Staff Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Cricket Australia’s technology landscape, enabling the delivery of secure, scalable, and high-quality digital experiences for fans and participants. Working across multiple teams, you will define and guide end-to-end architecture spanning front-end, back-end, integrations, and cloud infrastructure, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities such as innovation, sustainability, and exceptional customer experience. This is a highly influential, hands-on role where you will solve complex, cross-cutting technical challenges, drive architectural direction, uplift engineering standards, and mentor senior engineers—while championing long-term technical health and resilience across all systems.

• Define and drive end-to-end architecture across platforms, ensuring consistency, scalability, security, and maintainability beyond a single squad

• Solve complex, ambiguous technical problems and provide clear guidance on trade-offs involving performance, cost, risk, and technical debt

• Lead technical discovery for high-risk, cross-team initiatives, producing artefacts that inform product and platform roadmaps

• Deliver high-impact, strategic code contributions (e.g. core components, libraries, integrations) that accelerate multiple teams

• Uplift engineering standards, system reliability, security, and observability while mentoring engineers and improving overall technical capability

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor or master’s degree) in IT or computer science.

• You bring 8–10+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record delivering scalable, production-grade systems in complex, distributed environments

• You have deep full-stack expertise in TypeScript, including modern front-end frameworks (React/Next.js) and Node.js back-end services, alongside strong API and integration design capability

• You demonstrate advanced AWS cloud engineering skills and are highly proficient with Infrastructure as Code and modern CI/CD practices

• You are a strong solution designer, with expertise in architecture patterns, non-functional requirements (security, scalability, observability), and making sound technical trade-offs

• You lead through influence, communicating clearly via architectural artefacts (e.g. RFCs, ADRs), mentoring others, and collaborating effectively across Product, Design, Cyber, Platform, and Data teams

• You operate with autonomy and sound judgement, champion high-quality engineering practices, and set the technical standard through secure, reliable, and well-observed systems
