Job Description - Support Worker

Reports to: Manager, Support Worker Services


Department: Support Worker Services (SWS)


Location: Runcorn QLD


Employment Type: Casual


Award: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award


Classification Level: 2 ($43.44 to $47.41 per hour)



At Kyabra, the Support Worker Services (SWS) team facilitates a range of National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funded supports and services for people living with disabilities (i.e. participants).



We are seeking reliable, resourceful and dedicated Support Workers to assist NDIS participants with:



  • Personal care,

  • Household chores,

  • Meal preparation,

  • Medication management,

  • Facilitating social inclusion and community engagement opportunities,

  • Linking participants to activities or services of their choice, and

  • Various aspects of their lives so that they can live as independently as possible and achieve the goals of their NDIS Care Plan. 


 


Support Workers are expected to work directly with NDIS participants (on an individual basis) both in their home(s) and in the community. 



Successful candidates will be expected to work across our catchment area which includes: 



  • South Brisbane

  • Logan City Council (i.e. Logan Village)

  • Redland City Council

  • Ipswich City Council (i.e. Springfield Lakes)



Hours of Work


The successful candidate is expected to have availability to work a variety of shifts (minimum 2 hours per shift) for a minimum of 25-30 hours per week across mornings, evenings and weekends as required to support participants.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA




Qualifications



  • Current Driver’s License and access to a suitable, roadworthy vehicle for participant transport (mileage allowance provided).




    • Current First Aid and CPR certificates (from an Australian registered training organisation).

    • NDIS Worker Orientation Module certificate of completion.



    Skills & Experience



    • Demonstrated professional and/or lived experience supporting people living with a disability. 

    • Demonstrated understanding of issues/barriers facing people living with a disability, including ways to resolve or improve these issues and empower them towards positive outcomes. 

    • Understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of social justice, the NDIS Practice Standards, as well as a demonstrated capacity to work in ways that focus on people’s strengths.

    • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, including an ability to work autonomously or as part of a team, and adapt to various circumstances as necessary to support participants.



    Desirable 



    • Certificate III in Individual Support (or equivalent) or relevant experience.

    • Certificate(s) of completion in Mental Health First Aid, Epilepsy Essentials, Medication Management, Restrictive Practice or other relevant training from an Australian-accredited training provider.



    History Checks & Clearances 


    The successful applicant will be required to apply for certain mandatory Personal and Criminal History Checks. This position is required to hold a satisfactory/positive result for the following:



    • Blue Card (Working with Children Check),

    • NDIS Worker Screening 

    • A valid open driver’s license (Queensland).
