Our Surgery Department is made up of 2 Specialist Surgeons and a team of 5 dedicated nurses.  We pride ourselves on creating a positive, supportive environment where collaboration, learning and humour are all part of everyday life.

There is potential for this role to grow into a full-time position in the future.

You'll rotate through a variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Anaesthesia nursing for surgical, imaging and emergency procedures
  • Preparing patients for surgery, including clipping and surgical scrubbing
  • Theatre nursing while maintaining strict aseptic technique
  • Monitoring and caring for hospitalised surgical patients
  • Surgical float nursing
  • Assisting with specialist consultations and patient checks
  • Coordinating patient handovers between departments
  • Maintaining theatre equipment, sterile stores and high clinical standards
  • Helping ensure a safe, clean and efficient hospital environment

We are looking for:

  • Passionate about delivering outstanding patient care and enjoys working in a fast-paced specialist environment.
  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent)
  • At least 3 years' experience in general practice, or 1+ year in a specialist referral hospital         
  • Experience or a strong interest in surgery and/or anaesthesia
  • Excellent technical nursing skills, including:
    • Anaesthesia monitoring
    • IV catheter placement
    • Blood collection
    • TPR monitoring
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A calm, organised approach in busy clinical situations
  • A willingness to learn and embrace feedback
  • A positive attitude and genuine passion for veterinary nursing

Participation in our 1 in 10 weekend on-call roster is required.
