Steelmaking Coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.  

Dawson Mine is a large and dynamic open cut steelmaking coal mine operation made up of two operating pits - Central and South. It commenced operations in 1961 and is one of the oldest coal mining operations in Central Queensland with no signs of slowing down. Dawson Mine is rich in history, it was the first mine in Australia to export coal to Japan in 1961 and was the first mine to introduce draglines into its operation in 1963 – join the legacy today!

Reporting to the Survey Coordinator, you will be an energetic mining surveyor looking for an amazing career progression opportunity at our Dawson Mine Site. You will provide best practice survey services to the site whilst ensuring statutory compliance and maintaining business standards and contributions to the surveying aspects of the annual technical services plan. You will also produce timely and accurate weekly reports and plans of the mining operation, whilst providing advice on emerging or key surveying issues with a short-term focus and recommend approaches to systematically deal with them that are consistent with the Technical Services plan and strategies.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

• Provide survey set out, pickup, reconciliation and reporting services.
• Constant liaison and collaboration with technical services personnel and production crews.
• Monthly survey volumes/calculations for waste excavation, coal mining and rehabilitation quantities.
• Provision of design compliance plans on a weekly basis or as required.
• Assist the Registered Mine Surveyor in maintaining the data for the annual Mine Workings Plan submission.

This role will be offered on an 8/6 day shift roster with subsided housing or camp accommodation.

• Tertiary Qualifications in Spatial Science, Surveying or Geomatic Engineering.
• Leica GNSS Equipment and Total Station, Maptek Laser Scanners, and UAV experience will be highly regarded.
• Experience in Minescape, Deswik and I-Site Studio advantageous.
• Field experience in open cut mining operations, preferably coal and working towards Survey Endorsement with Surveyors Board of Queensland would be advantageous.
• RePL ticket for 25kg Multirotor and 7kg Powered Lift favourable.
