Job Description - Swimming Instructor / Aquatic Educator - Professional Development Opportunities

We are a purpose-built, boutique specialist aquatic service located in Burpengary East. We are seeking a passionate and extraordinary Aquatic Educator to embark on a wonderful new journey with us to contribute excellence in achieving high quality aquatic education and water safety for children between 4 months and 10 years old.

The role:

  • This role is currently designed for either a casual or permanent-part time position. Would suit mature aged job seekers wanting meaningful work but not in a full-time capacity, parents looking to return to the workforce, those looking for a career change and wanting to contribute to teaching children to be safer around the water, people of all cultural backgrounds, university and tafe students of all ages studying child related qualifications such as (but not limited to) education, occupational therapy and child development.
  • The successful candidate must be available 1-2 afternoons per week 2:40pm - 5:40pm and Saturday 7:50am - 12:20pm, as well as some weekday mornings.
  • Additional hours are also available through fill in shifts and through other areas of the business such as administration where viable.
  • All hours include paid set-up, pack-up and award recognized breaks, with all hours beings paid a minimum of 2.5% above current award rates.
  • CPR and First Aid is covered by Swimtikes. Swimtikes also covers qualification renewal, industry membership and insurance where needed.
  • This role would suit someone looking to be a part of a small close working team in a high achieving outcomes based environment. It has the flexibility to suit candidates who are looking for new challenges, get back into the aquatics industry, a role to compliment their study or other work, or as additional hours to their current employment.
  • Whilst industry experience is highly favourable, we believe in hiring the personality and training the skill and will consider candidates with experience in other related industries such as education, children's activities and customer service in place of aquatic experience.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following through their practice: 

  • A love of the water, little humans and how the two combine through different stages of development.
  • Ability to provide strong foundations for children's learning and development.
  • Understands children, must have an expansive knowledge of early childhood development, current pop culture interests and be able to name multiple dinosaurs.
  • Demonstrates planning and implements well-structured age-appropriate learning goals and teaching programs that engage children and promote learning, whilst having the flexibility to change a planned lesson during the lesson if needed to meet the need of the children.
  • Selects and uses relevant teaching strategies to develop knowledge, skills, problem solving, critical and creative thinking in an aquatic environment.
  • To be able to connect with your inner child, laugh at yourself and sing like no one is listening even though there is a crowd.
  • Evaluates personal teaching and learning curriculum using evidence, including feedback from children, parents and other team members.
  • Identifies, plans and engages in professional learning to improve their practice.
  • Meets professional ethics and conduct responsibilities.
  • Establishes and maintains respectful collaborative partnerships with families regarding their children's learning and well being.
  • Applies knowledge and understanding of effective teaching strategies to support children's aquatic achievements.
  • Works in partnership and supports their educational team respectfully.
  • Can bring learnt skills from other industries and employment to support this role and the business.
  • A big warm smile, a welcoming fun personality, emit genuine empathy and a heart that has more than enough room to love an abundance of tikelets and their families

The successful candidate will demonstrate the above, and hold or be working towards the following:

  • Have completed or be working towards or hold a recognised equivalent qualification in swimming instruction (some providers include Swim Australia, AUSTSWIM, Royal Life Saving Society).
  • Current membership and insurance with SCTA 
  • Swimming Australia Safe Sport Course
  • First Aid & CPR Certificates
  • Current Working with Children's Check
  • Or be willing to obtain the last 5 points with assistance from Swimtikes
  • Be an Australian citizen or have current working rights in Australia.
