Position overview

allnex invites you to join the team in Wacol, Queensland as a Synthesis Chemist! In this role, you will be responsible for executing research and development (R&D) activities, with a focus on polymer synthesis and product formulation. This role supports innovation, customer requirements, and business objectives by developing high-performance, cost-effective formulations. The position also provides technical expertise to customers, sales, and operations, ensuring products meet application, quality, and safety standards.

Responsibilities


  • Formulate products that meet customer requirements by evaluating end-use applications and manufacturing processes.

  • Plan, design, and conduct emulsion polymerisation at laboratory scale, ensuring all work is performed safely.

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive laboratory records to ensure full traceability of formulations, test results, and customer specifications.

  • Drive profitability through formulation optimisation and cost-performance improvements.

  • Prepare and submit monthly reports summarising R&D progress and key product developments.

  • Provide technical support, training, and guidance to laboratory, sales, and operations teams, promoting safe product handling and application.

  • Supervise trials at the site, including occasional work outside normal office hours.

  • Ensure laboratory equipment is properly maintained and operational.

  • Adhere to all company policies, including safety standards and EEO compliance.

  • Support ad hoc projects and tasks as assigned by the Manager.

Required skills and experience


  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply; 1–3 years of experience in a technical role within the polymer, coatings, or related industry is preferred

  • Strong knowledge of polymer chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority

  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills

  • High attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning and development

Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science (BSc or BSc Hons) in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering required; Master’s degree candidates are encouraged to apply
