System Safety Engineer (AU)

DroneShield is on the lookout for a System Safety Engineer to join our rapidly expanding Systems Engineering team in Sydney. Working in an innovative and fast-paced team across multiple projects/products, this role offers an exceptional opportunity for a results-driven system safety engineer to make a significant impact in a rapidly growing, and niche market.

This role will see you contribute directly to and oversee the development and implementation of a system safety program within the company. You will work across our portfolio of products and projects (current and future) conducting hazard analysis, risk assessments, stakeholder engagement, control management and tracking across the systems engineering lifecycle. You will conduct these activities as well as provide leadership and oversight to other systems engineers to champion a system safety program within the company.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

• Lead and manage system safety activities throughout the systems engineering lifecycle in accordance with applicable safety frameworks and standards.
• Develop, maintain, and execute System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), Hazard Logs, and Safety Cases
• Perform and document hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety analyses such as FTA, FMEA, SWIFT, HAZOP, and Bow-Tie analysis.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure safety requirements are considered and integrated throughout design and development.
• Interface with clients, certification authorities, and regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with required legislation, regulations and safety standards.
• Support technical certification and assurance processes for safety-critical systems.
• Provide leadership and oversight in the implementation of a system safety program across the Systems Engineering team.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

• Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in a relevant engineering discipline (Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science), or similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of experience in systems engineering with a focus on system safety, working across large and complex project/product development environments.
• Sound understanding of the application of systems engineering frameworks, principles and tools across the entire systems engineering lifecycle.
• Expertise in system safety frameworks, processes, standards, and their application across the entire systems engineering lifecycle.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain safety documentation (e.g. safety cases, hazard logs).
• Strong analytical, and problem-solving skills including experience with safety analysis techniques (e.g. FMEA, FTA, HAZOP, etc.).
