Job Description:

  • Role title: Technical Assistant

  • Role type: Casual (up to 38 hrs/ week)

  • Role grade: Technical Assistant Grade 2, (Year1-3)

  • Department and location: Central Specimen Reception, SydPath, St Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst

  • Salary: $32.46- $33.70 + 25% Casual Loading +Super + Salary packaging

About the role

  • Rotating roster Monday to Sunday, including occasional overnight shifts, with flexibility to support operational requirements.

  • Accurately manage and process medical request forms to ensure smooth workflow, timely turnaround times, and high-quality patient care.

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by responding to client telephone enquiries professionally and acting as a key point of contact for stakeholders.

  • Perform specimen reception and preparation activities, including labelling, centrifugation, aliquoting, and storage, ensuring specimens are processed accurately and ready for analysis.

  • Operate pre-analytical processing equipment and assist with laboratory housekeeping, maintenance, and courier duties, including the transport of blood products and collection of specimens across the hospital.

About you

  • Proven qualifications and/or practical experience in pathology or a related field, providing a strong foundation of technical knowledge and skills.

  • Strong teamwork skills with a proactive attitude, demonstrating the ability to collaborate effectively and contribute positively to a busy work environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong customer service focus and professional telephone manner.

  • High-level data entry skills with exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced setting.

  • Ability to prioritise competing tasks, work independently, and adapt to multitasking and cross-training across various areas within Customer Service and Reception (CSR).

In this role you will be based at St Vincent’s hospital, Darlinghurst.
