Job Description - Technical Officer, Zoology

Role type:Full-Time; Fixed-Term for 7 months 
Faculty: Faculty of Science   
Department/School: School of Biosciences   
Salary: UOM 5 - $86,943 - $99,864 p.a. plus 17% super

Your next career opportunity 
As a Technical Officer (Zoology), you'll play a pivotal role in supporting the undergraduate teaching programme within the School of BioSciences. You will have the opportunity to plan and organise practical classes, provide technical assistance in laboratory and field settings, and contribute to the development of new classes.  

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Undergraduate Teaching Support: Plan and organise materials, verify teaching experiments, and provide assistance during laboratory and field classes. 

  • Operational Support: Ensure laboratory safety, perform safety inspections, and maintain teaching equipment and specimens. 

  • Develop Practical Classes: Contribute technical expertise to the creation and refinement of practical classes, ensuring high-quality delivery. 

  • Laboratory Maintenance: Prepare solutions and materials, perform equipment maintenance, and assist with permit and ethics applications. 

You may be a great fit if: 
You will have a degree in Science or Applied Science with experience in laboratory and field settings, and possess strong organisational and communication skills to support a busy teaching environment. 

You will also: 

  • Have experience as a laboratory technician or in fieldwork. 

  • Possess skills in small animal handling and animal physiology. 

  • Demonstrate expertise in safety management in laboratory settings. 

  • Have strong problem-solving capabilities and technical skills.
