About the Role

Join the University of Wollongong as the leader of our Human Anatomy and Physiology Laboratories, playing a pivotal role in delivering exceptional teaching and learning experiences for undergraduate and postgraduate students. In this role you will oversee the safe, ethical and compliant operation of anatomy teaching laboratories, provide technical leadership to laboratory staff and manage the preparation of anatomical specimens, including cadaveric dissection and prosection.

Working closely with academic staff and external stakeholders, you will coordinate laboratory activities, specialist timetabling, resources and equipment to ensure seamless teaching delivery. You will also lead the management of the Body Donation Program and anatomy facilities, ensuring adherence to all legislative, regulatory and ethical requirements while contributing to workforce, infrastructure and budget planning across Health and Medical Science teaching laboratories.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead Human Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory operations and the Body Donation Program. 
  • Oversee anatomical specimen preparation, including dissection and prosection. 
  • Support practical teaching activities in partnership with academic staff. 
  • Coordinate laboratory resources, equipment and specialist timetabling. 
  • Lead and develop the Health and Medical Sciences technical team. 
  • Coordinate laboratory visits for schools, TAFE and external groups.

The Anatomy Laboratory is licensed within NSW for the provision of Anatomical Examination under the  Anatomy Act 1977. It services thousands of undergraduate and postgraduate students each year in learning of human anatomy, and along with the Physiology and Exercise Science laboratories, provides state of the art learning opportunities for students across Science, Medicine and Health. 

What You’ll Bring

  • Relevant degree in Medical Science, Exercise Science or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy and anatomy laboratory practices. 
  • Experience working with anatomical specimens, including cadaver dissection and prosection. 
  • Outstanding communication skills. 
  • Experience coordinating laboratory operations, resources and budgets. 
  • Understanding of NSW anatomy and human tissue legislation.

  • Level 6/7: $96,898 - $119,986 + 17% Superannuation

  • Valid Australian work rights required.  Visa sponsorship is not available.

Special Job Requirements

  • Manual handling of cadaveric material (>16kg) exposure to biological, chemical and sharp hazards in a risk-controlled environment will be a regular part of this role
  • This position requires a pre-employment medical be undertaken to demonstrate satisfactory fitness to undertake the physical requirements of this position.
  • You may be required to work outside standard business hours or occasionally weekends, as dictated by the Laboratory Timetable and operational requirements.
  • This position is not suitable for remote work in accordance with the UOW Remote Working Guidelines.
