Job Description:
Reporting through the Commercial Services team, this role is responsible for accurate and timely settlements, confirmations and financial reporting of Shell Energy’s wholesale energy purchasing and risk management transactions through thorough analysis and validation processes, together with effective dispute resolution.
The Commercial Services team are primarily responsible to support the Forward, Short Term trading and Commercial Operations teams who manage the financial and physical trading, scheduling and dispatching of the Shell Operated QGC Asset and the SEAu/SER gas and power portfolios and to maintain tools and processes to support efficient team performance.
Key Communications & Working Relationships
This position requires high level interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with all staff and external parties. The Commercial Services team work collaboratively with other parts of the Shell business. In addition to core reporting and analytical responsibilities, the incumbent will be exposed to a range of activities across Forecasting & Analytics, Origination and Commercial Operations.
All external communication will be to counterparties where information may be commercially sensitive and confidential. Accordingly, discretion and confidentiality must be applied when discussing aspects of the contracts either internally or externally.

Major Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Prepare and manage deal workflow from inception to confirmation and settlement
- Prepare, check and authorise trading contracts
- Manage relationships with external (counterparties) and internal (Trading, Finance, Risk) stakeholders
- Preparing and checking Settlement Invoices
- Provide advice on settlement related issues to the business
- Undertake reconciliations and other modelling of deals as necessary
- Approving transactions in payment and accounting systems
- Arranging financial transfer for contract settlement
- Assisting finance in monthly accruals and periodic reconciliations
- Mentoring and developing junior staff
- Preparing and reviewing procedures and policies
Major Challenges
- Dealing with complex contracts and markets;
- Maintain and demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;
- Problem solving when assisting in the development of tools to automate and streamline processes; and
- Meeting deadlines for both internal and external transactions.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated success in problem solving;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Excel, SAP, CRM and financial accounting;
- Ability to perform under pressure and deliver commercially sound outcomes; and
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (phone and face-to-face);
- Excellent analysis skills including high proficiency with Excel (VBA advantageous);
- Strong communication skills and an ability to work in conjunction with others in the team in a fast-paced environment is required;
- Attention to detail and time management skills
- High level numerical/quantitative aptitude
- Ability to work independently and with a proactive approach to task prioritisation; and
- Experience with market fundamentals analysis and/or experience within Australian east coast gas and power (NEM) market desirable
