The Role

Are you a passionate hiker with a deep appreciation for the great outdoors? Do you thrive on getting people out of their comfort zone whilst also ensuring the best hospitality? 

We are currently seeking an adventurous and experienced Trail Guide to lead small group multi-day hiking excursions along Spicers Scenic Rim Trail. Guide guests through World Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforest whilst staying at luxe off-grid accommodation and enjoy hosting and cooking curated meals with our chefs.

Our mission is to provide unforgettable adventures while fostering a deep appreciation for nature and sustainable tourism practices. You will be responsible for guiding participants safely through rugged terrain, providing educational insights along the way and ensuring a memorable and enriching experience for all guests.

About Spicers Scenic Rim Trail

Millions of years in the making, 20 years of dreaming & 7 years of planning saw the unprecedented opening of the 75km Spicers Scenic Rim Trail in April 2020. A first of its kind in Queensland and an eco-tourism experience that is getting global attention. Spicers Scenic Rim Trail offers guided walks exploring the diverse beauty of the Scenic Rim Region.

Here's what you'll do

  • Lead and supervise small groups of hikers on multi-day expeditions along the Scenic Rim Trail;
  • Deliver accurate and engaging interpretations on a range of topics from flora and fauna, wildlife, conservation and history of the area;
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by assessing trail conditions, monitoring weather forecasts, and implementing appropriate safety protocols;
  • Provide educational and interpretive information about the natural and cultural history of the Scenic Rim region;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in wilderness navigation, first aid, and emergency response procedures;
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the hiking group, encouraging camaraderie and teamwork among participants;
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service, addressing guest inquiries and resolving any issues or concerns promptly and professionally;
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless coordination of logistics, including meal preparation, campsite setup, and transportation arrangements.

This is how you’ll know you’re right for this role

  • Previous experience as a hiking guide or outdoor educator, preferably in a wilderness setting (professionally or personally);
  • Must be comfortable with all aspects of guiding small groups including cooking meals and hosting guests;
  • Current Remote Area or Wilderness First Aid certification and proficiency in wilderness survival skills;
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with a passion for sharing knowledge and inspiring others;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and age groups;
  • Deep appreciation for nature and a commitment to sustainable tourism practices;
  • Physical fitness and stamina to hike long distances with a backpack over varied terrain and in changing weather conditions;
  • Knowledge of the flora, fauna, and cultural heritage of the Scenic Rim region is desirable;
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Food Safety Certificate (essential);
  • Valid driver's license.
