Job Description - V-ARP Community Representative

ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities.  We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better.  It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

The Salvation Army’s Additional Referral Pathway (ARP) supports the journey to recovery for victim survivors experiencing or escaping modern slavery.

The program aims to broaden access to support for victim-survivors of modern slavery by implementing an Additional Referral Pathway (ARP) Program to the Support for Trafficked People Program (STPP), using a collaborative multi-agency approach to reach, screen and assess victim-survivors across Australia for referral to the STPP, while addressing immediate safety and welfare needs.

The role of the ARP Community Representative is to generate awareness about the issues around slavery and slavery-like practices through networking, sharing information and identifying opportunities for TSA to present Additional Referral Pathway Program.

Key responsibilities

Networking

  • Engage with the communities and organisations that work with people who are vulnerable to various kinds of exploitation practice.
  • Provide briefings and reports to TSA key stakeholders (THQ/Division/Mission/) on relevant matters/events/activities
  • Work with the Communications portfolio to uphold TSA’s brand message, presence and alignment to the mission and vision through all Salvation Army activities.

Planning events

  • Plan and organise community events with organisations in the community.
  • Generate awareness about modern slavery by distributing flyers and other materials about the ARP program.

Relationship management

  • Identify and help establish relationships with potential partners or volunteers that can contribute to the outreach programs and connect them with the ARP team.
  • Represent the organisation and the program at local community events and connect with key stakeholders.

Data and Reporting

  •  Assist in gathering, documenting and analysing data related to awareness raising initiatives and referrals.
  • Contribute to the interpretation of data to identify patterns, gaps, or opportunities for program development and for advocacy purposes.

Qualifications and skills (desired/required)

  • Good understanding of Modern Slavery legislative framework in Australia
  • Confident networker and able to proactively engage with the community
  • Good presentation style and attentive relationship-building skills
