Job Description - Venue Management School Instructor

TO APPLY:

Please email your application to Suzie Crawford, VMA Education Manager : [email protected]

The VMS Committee is recruiting a volunteer Instructor for this year’s Venue Management School held in Kingscliff, NSW arriving Sunday, 10 and departing Friday, 15 November.
We are seeking an instructor to teach two subjects with vacancies in the following sessions:

Session One
Booking and Scheduling (Year 1)

  • Booking and scheduling in any venue, large or small, is one of the most critical aspects of venue management. Apart from the fact that intelligent scheduling of events can make a big difference to the bottom line, communication with the bookings staff is usually the first exposure a client has to your organisation. So the experience, good or bad, will create that all-important first impression of your company, its professionalism, capabilities, flexibility and of course its facilities and services.
  • This means that those responsible for booking and scheduling have to possess many skills. Not only are they expected to be reliable sources of general venue information such as rental rates and conditions of hire, but they also may need to be able to negotiate deals and contracts, juggle frequently conflicting client needs, provide excellent customer service, co-ordinate the gathering and dissemination of hirer information, ask the right questions, be tough when necessary, be diplomatic and have an intimate knowledge of the marketplace.

Session Two
Business Development (Year 2)

  • Events are the lifeblood of our industry. Event procurement and business development are key elements to the success of any venue. This applies in the context of the financial success of the venue, but it is also critically important for the image of the venue. A positive perception is what we desire, not only from the public’s point of view but also that of our Boards, Trusts and Building Owners.
  • The concepts of event procurement and business development do not simply apply to bringing new events to our venues. Of equal significance, is the need to nurture and develop the regular events that make up the most important proportion of any Venue’s business levels. Ensuring these regular events stay and grow, is often the understated aspect of business development.
  • Our industry throws many challenges to us on a daily basis and these serve only as further incentives to ensure we are taking a proactive and effective approach to event procurement and business development to maximise the lifeblood that keeps our venues alive and well.

If you have experience in the above session topics, this is an opportunity to join an elite group of venue management industry professionals to train and inspire the next generation.
