  • $81,672.54 per annum plus Superannuation

As Field Officer, you will play an important role in ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of services to the Hume community.

Primarily, you will assist with the delivery of contracted services from the Waste portfolio, ensuring that activities the functions and performed by contractors and suppliers are delivered in accordance with contract documentation, Hume City Council’s policies and procedures, and best-practice principles, in addition to State and Federal government legislation, permits, licences, policies, regulations and directions.

Your experience, expertise, capability to effectively manage competing priorities, and commitment to exceeding customer expectations, will be crucial to your success in this role.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and manage CSS, ensuring operations are consistent with relevant policies, guidelines, standards, and legislative requirements.
  • Strategic planning and implementation of continuous improvement systems utilising new technologies to enhance responsive and effective community service outcomes.
  • Monitor performance against service targets and implement strategies to achieve targets.
  • Implement effective and efficient business systems to support appropriate and cost-effective service outcomes for clients and the provision of timely qualitative and quantitative service data information
  • Undertake internal and external reporting, including Council reports, briefings, submissions and correspondence as required and directed.
  • Prepare information and advice for consideration by the Executive Leadership Team and Council as directed.
  • Interpret Victorian and Commonwealth Government policy developments and/or legislative changes and provide advice regarding implications and recommended responses.
  • Oversee the receipt and investigation of customer complaints, grievances and concerns and ensure these are addressed in accordance with Council policy.
  • Ensure a comprehensive range of promotional material on local services and developments is available, current, and accessible.
  • Provide effective leadership for the Community Support Services team, fostering a collaborative, positive and innovative team environment.
  • Lead the recruitment and induction of appropriately skilled and experienced staff within the team.
  • Create and maintain a team culture where individual members are valued and recognised for their diverse skill sets, provide proactive and constructive input in team meetings, and keep team members informed of relevant issues impacting them or their work and share best practice learning.
  • Develop and deliver strategy and policy which successfully responds to future directions. 
  • Prepare operational budgets and manage the service in accordance with available resources. 
  • Implement agreed strategies to address budget variances, which are evaluated. 

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience complying with and working to Occupational Health and Safety regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to liaise with the public and other council staff.
  • Good working knowledge of basic computer applications including the Microsoft Office suite of applications.

Required Certifications & Qualifications: 

 

  • Relevant experience working in Waste Management is desirable, with a commitment to developing ongoing technical qualifications and skills; or an understanding of Waste Management practice and legislation, including environmental compliance.
  • A Current Victorian Drivers Licence is required.
