Waste Driver Side Loader - with Great Benefits

Position Overview:

Our client a Local Council based in Melbourne's northern Suburbs is seeking a dedicated Waste Collection Operator to join their team, providing high-quality garbage, recycling, and green waste collection services throughout the northern area of the Municipality. Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure mobile garbage, recycling, and green waste bins are emptied correctly and returned to designated areas, including picking up any spilt material.
• Handle mobile bins with care, report any damaged or burnt-out bins, and submit daily documentation to the Team Leader/Works Officer.
• Report any extra rubbish, recyclables, or green waste, such as bins disturbed by animals or dumped materials, and document for the Works Officer at the end of the day.

Customer Service

• Conduct waste collection services with public courtesy and promote Council's waste collection services throughout the Municipality.

Operational Duties

• Rotate between garbage, recycling, and green waste services as needed.
• Follow instructions from the Team Leader, Works Officer, and Unit Manager to complete daily work objectives within a team environment.
• Participate in waste minimisation programs and team meetings, including health and safety training and continuous improvement programs.
• Dispose of collected materials at designated sites daily.
• Respond to two-way radio calls when assistance is required and be available for overtime on an emergency and rostered basis.
• Support the Team Leader in allocating crew members for waste collections and ensure tasks are completed in accordance with the Enterprise Agreement 2012.
• Assist in monitoring tipping weights to comply with statutory requirements.

Vehicle Maintenance

• Maintain accurate daily work records, including plant usage.
• Perform basic daily vehicle checks and report any faults.
• Ensure the vehicle is clean and ready for the next day, including washing, cleaning, and disinfecting.
• Leave driver's truck keys in the Waste Services key locker before going home.

Continuous Improvement

• Implement and maintain Continuous Improvement System standards and procedures.

Occupational Health & Safety

• Adhere to health and safety standards and procedures in line with legislation and MoreSafe guidelines.
• Contribute to a safe and healthy environment by following the responsibilities outlined in the MoreSafe Manual.

• Perform all duties with awareness and sensitivity to diversity and equity in accordance with Council policy.

Organisational Relationship:

• Reports to: Works Officer Waste Services

Accountability and Authority:

• Perform tasks using developed skills.
• Ensure a safe working environment and utilize safe work practices.
• Responsible for the quality and quantity of work and completion of daily tasks.
• Ensure safe and efficient operation of vehicles and equipment.
• Assist in on-the-job training when required.
• Report any dangerous drainage, road, or similar conditions.

Judgment and Decision Making:

• Resolve minor problems related to immediate work tasks independently, including when the Team Leader is unavailable.

Specialist Knowledge and Skills:

• Ability to operate and maintain machinery for emptying mobile garbage bins.
• Physically capable of handling and maneuvering bins.
• Basic understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Act 1985 and VicRoads guidelines.
• Basic First Aid skills and understanding of vehicle safety standards
• Previous experience in a similar role highly advantageous

Management Skills:

• Ability to manage time efficiently and complete tasks within set schedules.
• Ensure safe operation and care of vehicles and equipment.

Key Requirements:

• Current Victorian Driver's Licence with Heavy Rigid Endorsement.
• Experience operating side loader waste collection vehicles.
• HR Drivers Licence
• Understanding of current safe working practices.
• Willingness to work as part of a team to achieve group task-finish.

Working Hours and Pay:

• Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 5:15 AM to 12:15 PM
• Total Hours: 35 hours per week
• Pay Rate: $35.71 per hour
• This is a short-term contract, with the possibility of extension dependent on job quality.
