About the Role:

As the Water Treatment Technician, you will work on water management projects from conception and planning to implementation and completion. You will demonstrate a sound understanding of water treatment processes to assist in the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and adjustment.

You must have unlimited working rights in Australia to apply for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of new water treatment equipment, plants, pumps, pipework, and systems in the field
  • Fault finding to identify the source of water quality issues and put the processes in place to address and treat
  • Analyse and interpret water quality results/data and characteristics to develop reports, specifications, and associated documentation
  • Install/maintain water treatment system components (dosing pumps, monitoring controllers, water quality monitoring probes, and chemical transfers) in line with environmental and legislative requirements
  • Identify, report, and resolve service outcomes on site
  • Prepare water treatment equipment for hire and complete general maintenance of systems
  • Identify project risks and provide recommendations to eliminate the risk to the project delivery team prior to acceptance
  • Customer and public interfacing, while attending to aspects associated with our clients water discharge quality
  • Apply standards to ensure all projects comply with policy, legislation, guidelines, and licensing requirements
  • Collection and laboratory analysis of water samples for monitoring programs of groundwater, surface water and treatment system process water
  • Bench/Jar testing of raw water samples to determine treatment chemicals and process
  • Calculating/forecasting chemical dosing rates and usage
  • Providing breakdown service and repairs to water treatment equipment and plants
  • Collaborate in the development of water treatment designs and groundwater table management (including pump systems and pipe networks)
  • Understanding the specific needs of the customer and collaborating as part of a team to develop appropriate technologies to deliver required outcomes
  • Ability to travel as required

Key Competencies

Essential:

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Existing expertise & knowledge of water treatment within a water and chemical environment
  • Demonstrated experience in environmental consulting/engineering (focus in environmental remediation/water treatment would be advantageous)
  • Knowledge of water sampling and lab procedures to ensure QA requirements are maintained (Groundwater sampling, field water quality monitoring, lab sample preparation)
  • Sound knowledge and operation of water treatment technologies and equipment involving chemical dosing, ion exchange, adsorption, filtration, and automated control systems
  • Experience in the maintenance of valves, pumps, pipelines, and other electrical/mechanical equipment
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong chemical and mechanical understanding i.e., water chemistry, process engineering, heat transfer, fluids, thermodynamics, strength of materials, material sciences
  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills
  • Mechanical or Electrical & control system aptitude
  • Awareness and understanding of current environmental issues and legislative requirements to maintain compliance with State, Federal and local laws, regulations, and policies
  • Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes
  • Ability to troubleshoot/problems solve and work with flexibility and initiative

Desirable:

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification/s (Environmental Science, Geology, Earth Sciences, Engineering in Chemical, Environmental Engineering - or related field)
  • Qualification in Water Industry / Treatment Operations
  • Experience in the Rental, Mining, Construction or Heavy industries would be advantageous
  • Relevant trade experience (such as chemical, water, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and or laboratory work)
  • Construction White Card
  • Sound understanding of P&ID’s and shop drawings and an ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Experience working in a Plumbing/fitting/mechanical background would be highly regarded
