This role is chiefly responsible for overseeing the implementation of work health and safety initiatives and programs for this Government Department. It focuses on delivering workplace health, safety and wellbeing programs to help the department fulfil its legislative responsibilities and strategic priorities. The role involves maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders and collaborating with key internal and external partners to provide timely and efficient services and programs that support the health, safety and wellbeing needs of the department and meet project delivery requirements. Key Accountabilities- Manage projects by creating plans, allocating resources and fulfilling reporting requirements to deliver programs and initiatives that continuously enhance workplace health and safety.
- Guide the execution and management of the organisation's Safety Management System to promote ongoing health and safety improvements and reduce risks.
- Offer expert advice on workplace health and safety strategies and programs to ensure compliance with organizational goals, assisting managers in meeting their objectives.
- Formulate and design strategies and initiatives to support a comprehensive framework that advances the ongoing improvement and risk reduction in workplace health and safety.
- Assess training needs and oversee the delivery of workplace health and safety programs to ensure they are effective, suitable, and cost-efficient, enhancing organisational skills.
- Stay informed about the business, its challenges and goals while fostering strong relationships with clients and team members to ensure initiatives align with the organisation’s plans and stakeholder needs.
- Work with key stakeholders to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of workplace health and safety measures within the organization, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
- Provide mentorship, support and guidance to team members and stakeholders to foster a thorough understanding of workplace health and safety, including active participation in WHS sub-committees and related committees.
Key Challenges- Stay current with best practices in work health and safety principles, strategies and legislation in a dynamic and ever-improving environment.
- Create a health and safety risk management profile to identify effective mitigation strategies, considering the diverse work and locations within the organisation.
- Manage relationships with various stakeholders and customers, adhering to agreed timelines and accommodating their differing expectations, perspectives, and interests.
