Position Summary

As a WHS Officer, you will be at the forefront of shaping our health and safety landscape. Your mission is to create, implement, and sustain innovative safety programs that make a real difference. By working hand-in-hand with employees and management at every level, you will champion a proactive safety culture, lead the charge on WHS management systems, and oversee the critical areas of onsite injury management and return-to-work programs for our dedicated staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Development, implementation and review of Health & Safety Procedures.
• Conducting thorough workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and address safety concerns.
• Taking the lead in investigations for workplace incidents, and near misses, providing insightful recommendations for preventive measures.
• Maintaining a comprehensive and accurate incident register and providing regular reports with detailed analysis for review to senior management.
• Undertaking all necessary actions required for the management of an injured worker.
• Managing WHS committee meetings and facilitating safety consultation onsite.
• Maintaining and updating safety records, incident reports, injury management, return to work, risk register, hazard register and safety training documentation.
• Drive Risk Management by conducting Risk Assessments.
• Engage, support and influence all team members to achieve a pro-active Safety Culture.
• Answering questions, providing support and coach on Health & Safety related topics.
• Ensuring all hazards and incidents are reported and corrective actions are completed within the set time frame.
• Ensure all incidents are investigated and support the investigation process.
• Accurately maintaining the online WHS system and document control system.
• Ensure compliance to legal and reporting requirements.
• Coach and support members of the Safety Committee and lead meetings as required.
• Organise, design and deliver training and toolbox sessions on Health & Safety topics, including site inductions for new employees and contractors.

Person Specifications

• Safety Qualifications - Certification in WHS (e.g., Cert IV in Work Health and Safety).
• Minimum 2 years' experience, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
• Return to Work Coordinator training and experience with managing complex Return to Work cases.
• Working knowledge of WHS State Legislation and regulations.
• Working knowledge of AS4801 / ISO18001 WHS Management Systems.
• In-depth knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to influence change in behaviour and decision making.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with acute attention to detail.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
• Time management skills.
• Proficient in all Microsoft Applications.
