About the Role: As the Works Manager, you will play a pivotal role in our organization's Engineering Department. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering/ Deputy CEO, you will be responsible for leading and managing Council's Construction and Maintenance functions to deliver our annual works program to the highest standards of service. Your role is vital in ensuring all works, programs, and tasks are carried out efficiently, timely, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities: - Program Management: Mentor and manage staff within the Engineering Team, plan and review budgets and work programs, monitor team progress, and provide regular reports.
- Strategic Leadership and Management: Contribute to departmental strategic plans and budgets, coordinate resources, and maintain a positive workplace culture.
- Operations Management and Coordination: Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly works programs, supervise work team performance, and coordinate after-hours or emergency call-outs.
- Project and Contract Management: Assist in scoping and design of projects, act as a project manager, supervise field staff, and participate in project management meetings.
- Resource Management: Benchmark and improve resource productivity, procure materials and services, and monitor team performance.
- Workplace Health and Safety: Ensure a safe work environment, implement WH&S policies, conduct hazard inspections, and actively promote a Zero Harm culture.
- Workplace Behavior and Effective Communication: Productively contribute to outcomes, model professionalism and ethical conduct, promote effective communication, and adhere to the Code of Conduct.
Required Qualifications and Attributes: - The successful applicant will be extremely safety conscious, have excellent attention to detail, be computer literate and be able to work autonomously.
- Certificate or Diploma in Civil Construction.
- Open C and HR class driver's license.
- White Card - Induction for Construction General Safety.
- Traffic Control and Traffic Management qualifications (desirable)
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- At least 5 years of previous experience managing road construction and maintenance operations.
- Knowledge and experience with Quality and Safety Management Systems.
- Project management and workforce planning experience.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislative and organizational requirements.
The position is being offered on a 4 year fixed term contract, with an attractive remuneration package including superannuation, rent free accommodation, fully serviced vehicle, relocation assistance, extra week of annual leave and training and development opportunities.
