Advisor HSE – Yarwun

About the role

We are looking for an Advisor, Safety to provide dedicated support to the Operations at Yarwun. The role will also partner with contractors to support the safe delivery of services and projects.

This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic qualified safety advisor, to make a positive impact to Yarwun Operations, or someone who is ready to take the next step in their career and work within the sector.

Working in a challenging and exciting environment as a valued member of the Yarwun HSE Team, you will:

  • Educate, communicate and engage with site leaders, operational personnel and Rio Tinto HSE groups
  • Analyse data and ensuring compliance with the Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards and legislative requirements
  • Support and participate in the investigations to prevent repeat incidents occurring
  • Work across the health and safety function to support the standardisation and simplification of systems and processes
  • Recommend key control methods (considering the hierarchy of control) for health and safety risk reduction and evaluate control effectiveness
  • Participate in and facilitate risk register reviews
  • Support the delivery of strategic safety initiatives
  • Lead and support business wide health and safety improvement initiatives
  • Conduct health and safety assurance and governance activities
  • Work with contractor partners to support safe delivery of projects in alignment with the Rio Tinto Health and Safety Management System

What you’ll bring

  • Must have relevant health and safety qualification or demonstrated experience working in an operational health and safety role, coupled with a passion for, and sound knowledge of health and safety.
  • Strong engaging and influencing skills, with the ability to coach leaders and to think strategically across the business value chain
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities supporting multiple stakeholder groups
  • Intermediate computer skills including experience using reporting tools and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adaptability, flexibility & a solutions based mind-set
  • High level of integrity and values based decision making
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
