Job Description - Platform Systems Engineer

The Role:

Due to Navantia Australia’s ongoing success, we have an exciting opportunity for a Platform Systems Engineer to join the DDG PSD team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. The Platform Systems Engineer is responsible for providing front-line engineering support to the customer and DDG PSD team covering issue investigations and problem resolutions, design change planning and execution, as well as support to ongoing maintenance and repairs which are related to the DDG Platform Systems.

In the role you will:

  • Provide experience and broad technical knowledge of functional and detailed design related to the platform systems of the DDG’s.
  • Conduct and/or endorse technical risk analysis of platform systems issues, improvements or upgrades that are captured in the RPR’s raised within the DDGSPO.
  • Plan, coordinate and participate in the development of platform system documentation.
  • Participate in formal reviews with the customer about engineering changes that affect platform systems such as: SRR, PDR, DDR, ERB and CCB.
  • Participate in the design coordination meetings with the rest of the Engineering Team members.
  • Participate in DDGSPO Working Groups and URDEF’s meetings.
  • Work effectively across the DDG System Program Office (SPO) and provide specialist technical advice around platform systems to the Engineering Operations Manager and the PSD team.
  • Engage in proactive communication with the Destroyer Enterprise stakeholders in regard to ship issues and defects as directed by the Engineering Operations Manager.
  • Analyze and report on merits of engineering change proposals including deviations & waivers.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Engineering in a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience conducting engineering work
  • Experience in a Marine Engineering environment and platform systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of working with standards, class societies, rules and regulations including Australian, European and US Military standards such as: MIL, Def(AUST), STANAG, IMO, SOLAS, etc.
  • Experience in conducting engineering investigations, analysis and writing reports.
  • Experience in complex technical engineering projects preferably gained in the Marine or Defence sectors.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, produce reports and operate with an eye for detail.
  • Competent in computer based systems used in projects such as CMT-U, AMPS, NAVALOW, MicroStation, Objective, TRMS, and Project Wise.
  • Knowledge in the Systems Engineering methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills.
  • Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance
