Job Description - Principal project manager

  • 6 month contract
  • 90% remote!

Working in the National Park Booking System Replacement Project, the Project Specialist will work closely and collaboratively with the project team and relevant staff across the Department. They will support existing relationships with and where appropriate, develop new relationships with a view to ensuring that the implementation of the replacement National Parks Booking System meets departmental needs and client service obligations.

This role is responsible for the development of project implementation, governance and stakeholder training documentation and associated deliverables across the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnerships.

Specifically, you will play critical role in a major project to replace the existing National Parks Booking Service (NPBS). The intent of the system replacement is to deliver an improved, customer enriched booking experience, address technology security and stability risks and consolidate all QPWS&P's product offerings (camping and vehicle permits, visitor attractions/events bookings and ticket sales) into a single platform. The successful vendor has been contracted to deliver an off-the-shelf platform plus the required additional development work to ensure the platform is fit for purpose. Role Duties

The Project Specialist will report to the Program Director in relation to project requirement and will be supported by a Change Manager, Business Analyst, Project Manager and two Senior Digital Project Officers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work in collaboration with the project team to identify and prioritise requirements to be delivered in relation to the implementation of the National Parks Booking Service replacement system.
  • Collaborate with the project Change Manager and Communications to ensure change impacts are actioned and business readiness is planned and managed (training and co-facilitation or project change activities).
  • Collaborate with the project team to ensure business scenarios are covered with the proposed test cases and assist with defect management with the vendor.
  • Liaise and collaborate with other Subject Matter Experts and Senior Users to ensure the project is delivering against the planned activities.
  • Review and refresh any products delivered by the project team and endorse that they are correct prior to submission to the project board.
  • Provide the Program Director and Project Manager with an operational view into project outcomes / products to support their decision making and approval of project products.
  • Provide business expertise and work closely with other relevant business stakeholders to understand business drivers, considerations and necessary approvals and support project outcomes.
  • Work with business units, project managers and across project teams responsible for IT delivery and services.
  • Provide weekly leadership reports on project progress, achievements, and improvement areas.
Essential Qualifications/Certifications/Skills

The Contractor must have experience in and knowledge of the following:

  • Demonstrated expertise with the implementation of Prince 2, Project Management.
  • Ability to make pragmatic decisions under pressure (e.g. time, cost) and work with the uncertainty that is part of project delivery.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement across all levels including negotiation skills and problem solving.
  • High-level written communication including the preparation of complex, sensitive materials.
  • Conveying feedback in a constructive manner to assist the project team in delivering quality products and outcomes.
  • High-level analytical capabilities.
  • Contribution to workplace equity and diversity that enriches our culture of innovation, respect, and inclusion.
  • Previous experience working for a large IT/ICT organisation or IT Projects (involving significant governance elements).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and work across multiple initiatives and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Familiarity with technologies and strategies for overcoming connectivity barriers, such as offline data synchronisation, cloud-based solutions, and efficient use of local resources.
  • Experience in aspects of systems integration, application 'look and feel', development, deployment, and training of applications.

The Project Specialist shall also be highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Visio (or similar) and proficient with office automation tools such as Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook (e-mail). The successful contractor should be a self-motivated, enthusiastic, and results-oriented person with good interpersonal skills.
