THE ROLE

Advisor - Aboriginal Partnerships and Practice, Aboriginal Self-determination and Outcomes Division contributes significantly to the strategic directions of the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) by providing earlier and more connected support, as well as local solutions. The primary objective of this position is to support the team that is working to enhance the well-being of Aboriginal individuals and communities by supporting engagement strategies for social and economic participation. By doing so, the position aims to create opportunities for individuals and families to build better lives and achieve their potential by participating in the community and economy.

In addition to contributing to the delivery and implementation of vital projects and initiatives in collaboration with community, inter-sectoral, and whole-of-government stakeholders and staff, this role focuses on supporting continuous service monitoring, service delivery models, and innovative approaches to achieving better Aboriginal, community, and social welfare outcomes. The role will support partnerships with the Aboriginal community, Aboriginal agencies, and the broader sector to ensure self-determined results for local communities. This involves supporting a team implementing place-based approaches, considering the unique characteristics and interactions of people and places to design and implement interventions and investments in a given location or community.

This position will play a critical role in supporting the development of community engagement strategies that align with the broader goal of self-determination. By doing so, the Advisor will help to create opportunities for Aboriginal individuals and communities to take control of their lives and make decisions that benefit them. Through these efforts, the Advisor will contribute to building more robust, self-sufficient communities better equipped to meet their challenges.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deliver content for a range of different communication platforms, including websites, email and digital newsletters.
  • As required assist with, and contribute to, the successful development and implementation of projects, including providing timely and accurate support in relation to new and existing information sharing arrangements.
  • Assist with stakeholder and community relationships and create mutually beneficial partnerships essential for achieving the department's objectives in relation to the support of Aboriginal communities and people.

COVID-19 VACCINATION
The department strongly recommends (but does not mandate) that employees maintain their COVID-19 vaccination status in accordance with current  ATAGI (Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation) advice , given their individual circumstances. As of June 2023, DFFH does not require evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status.
