The company, a 100% subsidiary of a large trading company Importing and Exporting commodities and products in the steel, feed, grain, food, ITC, chemicals and life sciences industries.







Position:


Sales/Trading and New Business Development


The position will suit a person interested in international business looking to progress from a sales assistant into a sales/trading manager managing existing business and developing new business projects in the company core businesses. The candidate will be working in an office environment within Sydney CBD but also connected to multinational teams within their company network. The position will start as a sales assistant focusing on execution of sales contracts. After the foundation skills have been acquired the candidate will add further responsibilities of managing existing key customers and finally the responsibility for developing new business in varying industries in a business-to-business environment. Some domestic and international business trips will be required.







Salary:


Base salary and access to an incentive scheme should the candidate progress to managing sales and business development.







Job Description


As sales assistant:

  • Coordinating logistics between domestic and international suppliers and customers, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with international regulations.
  • Liaising with customs brokers, quarantine, third party warehouses and transportation companies for a smooth flow of goods.
  • Managing supply chain documentation such as shipping documents and import permits.
  • Providing exceptional customer service, addressing inquires, and resolving issues to maintain customer satisfaction.

As sales/trading manager (Same as sales assistant with the below added. This is near future for you.)

  • Negotiating contracts, prices, and terms with domestic and international suppliers and customers to ensure favourable outcomes for the company.
  • Developing and implementing effective trading strategies to maximise profitability and minimise risk to the company.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective suppliers, buyers, and other relevant stakeholders in various industries.
  • Identify and research new business opportunities, prospective customers and developing them into ongoing sustainable business.
  • Keep track of market intelligence in applicable industries to monitor market changes, competitor activity and customer requirements.





Skills/Abilities required.

  • Relationship building: Building and maintaining relationships, one of the key attributes required in Business-to-Business sales and marketing.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit: The ability to see new business opportunities and the perseverance to bring them to fruition.
  • Adaptability: The need to adapt to new environments and industries that the candidate would not have prior experience in.
  • Communication: The candidate will be part of an international team and will be communicating with multiple countries both internally and externally.
  • Negotiation: Strong negotiation skills required to achieve favourable terms for the company when dealing with suppliers, customers, and other internal related companies.
  • Attention to detail: Attention to detail required to ensure smooth clearance of goods when dealing with multiple shipments and documents.





Qualifications/experience :

  • Tertiary or similar education in business economics or other similar fields
  • At least 3 years' work experience/knowledge in one of the business fields of steel, feed, food, ITC, chemicals and life sciences, or other importing/exporting related industries such as logistics and freight forwarding.
