Project Manager

The Role:

Due to Navantia Australia's ongoing success in delivering specialised Engineering Services to the Royal Australian Navy, we are growing considerably and have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join the Naval Design and Engineering Centre in its Melbourne, Docklands office.

As the Project Manager, you will be responsible for applying Project Management discipline knowledge to the execution of Engineering projects undertaken by Navantia Australia’s engineering team. The Project Manager is ultimately responsible for managing the delivery of multiple, simultaneous engineering projects within the specified cost, schedule and to the expected level of quality. The Project Manager will report to the Engineering Manager.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a successful multi-disciplined Engineering team and work alongside industry leaders and like-minded engineers on sustaining Navantia’s design class of warships in service with the Royal Australian Navy, in particular our Supply Class (AOR) vessels.

In this role, you will:

• Apply Project Management discipline experience and knowledge to the execution of multiple simultaneous engineering projects (utilising a common resource pool).
• Manage stakeholders and System Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop project plans (quotations) for delivery to the customer, including: Work Breakdown Structure, Schedule, Scope Definition, Risk, Resource Profile.
• Work with project controllers to monitor project performance using the Earned Value Management (EVM) technique.
• Apply corrective actions to ensure that projects are delivered on schedule and to budget costs.
• Manage project prioritisation and resource prioritisation to maximise project delivery outcomes.
• Manage project risks and risk mitigation strategies.
• Facilitate resource management and resource planning with Engineering Functional Managers.
• Develop and maintain Project Management plans for major engineering programs.
• Develop strong customer relationships and working level communications.
• Support the Engineering Manager in matters relating to the management of minor/medium projects, from the quotation phase to the delivery.
• Work with the Configuration Management team to Manage the internal configuration control and data management related to the assigned engineering tasks, including the update of engineering deliverables in Navantia Australia CM tools.
• Manage in collaboration with the relevant discipline, Safety Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, ILS Engineering and Seaworthiness
• Interface with customer stakeholders for acquisition and maintenance of GFE supporting the assigned tasks
• Support the Engineering Manager to interface with other Navantia Australia departments for OEM engagement, SME engagement or subcontracting of Engineering packages.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

• Bachelor Degree in Engineering / Project Management
• Experience in the project management and delivery of engineering projects.
• Proficient understanding of Project Management Methodology (PMI, IPMA, APM)
• Proficiency with EVM and risk management
• Experience in engineering project delivery
• Very strong interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written) and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients
• Australian Citizen holding or eligible for an AGSVA Defence Security Clearance
