About the Role

Create a long-term career in the mining sector through Macmahon’s Apprenticeship and Traineeship Program at Byerwen Mine.

Our participants complete nationally recognised training with high-quality registered training organisations while gaining valuable hands-on experience maintaining mining equipment in a coal mining environment.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates from diverse backgrounds who are looking to add value and gain a qualification in one of the following pathways:

Apprenticeships (48-month program)

• Automotive Electrician


• Boilermaker Welder (Heavy Fabrication)


• Mobile Plant Mechanic (HD Mechanic)


• Electrician

Traineeship (12-month program)

• Tyre Fitter

Most roles will commence on a 7 days on / 7 days off roster which is BIBO from Mackay. 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre on 9 December 2026 in Townsville or 11 December 2026 in Mackay, with successful candidates commencing in March 2027.

• Maintain a tidy work area and support safe interactions with all teams

What You'll Bring

• Successfully completed pre-apprenticeship training or relevant work/project experience in the chosen trade


• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude


• Commitment to safe work practices and high job quality


• Physical fitness for the demands of the role.
