About the opportunity 

With broad-based understanding of emerging technologies and processes an imperative towards future employment, study programs offered by Griffith’s School of Information and Communication Technology provide an appealing option for future students.

Global research expertise in industries relating to big data, coding, app development and cyber security ensures an overriding enterprise and initiative in study program development and delivery.

As an HDR Student Teaching Fellow at the Associate Lecturer level, you'll play an integral role in the undergraduate teaching efforts of Griffith University. This position not only allows you to develop your teaching skills in higher education settings but also provides the support of an academic supervisor to help you grow and gain autonomy throughout your employment.

In this integrated paid work experience opportunity, you'll be involved in a combination of teaching and professional development. You'll work towards seeking recognition of your experience and skills through the Advance HE Professional Standards Framework, ensuring you gain valuable qualifications and build a solid foundation for your academic career. This role is specifically designed for Griffith HDR students who aspire to enhance their teaching capabilities while contributing to the university's educational mission.

On campus, face-to-face teaching is required and the work patterns for the part-time position is expected to reflect the teaching requirements of the role.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Foster outstanding student experiences through high-quality, student-centred learning activities.
  • Support high-quality learning outcomes using technology-enhanced, authentic learning and assessment practices.
  • Maintain compliance with university policies and establish positive, respectful relationships between staff and students.
  • Enhance the school's reputation by promoting it at open days and student recruitment activities.

These are fixed term (up to two years), part time (10% or 20%) positions and can be based at Brisbane South (Nathan), Gold Coast or South Bank. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.

Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary 

The full time equivalent base salary will be Associate Lecturer, Level A range $79,984.92 - $107,561.91 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $93,582.35 - $125,847.43 per annum.

About you 

The successful candidate will be enrolled in a Griffith HDR program post confirmation and have at least two trimesters of prior teaching experience.

You will also have:

Expected knowledge/competency in two or more of the following:

  • ICT fundamentals including computational thinking, analysis and modelling using a range of methods, familiarity with methods and tools used for handling abstraction in various branches of ICT.
  • ICT project management including familiarity with prototyping and agile methods,
  • Application systems design and development knowledge including ontological modelling, and the design and development principles relevant to various application types including simulation and decision support, information management, knowledge management
  • Information and data science such as data analytics, mining, visualisation, Big data, data modelling, database management systems.
  • Computational science such as process and algorithm modelling and design, computational functions, artificial neural net approaches, programming languages and coding methods, software engineering.
  • ICT infrastructures, networks, cybersecurity, cryptography
  • Strong experience in undergraduate teaching and a proven ability to facilitate high-quality, student-centred learning activities.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students and staff.
