Job Description - Student Activities Officer (Club Projects)

Overview:

 

  • Part-time 0.4 FTE / 14.4 hours per week, Fixed Term position until December 2026 

  • Professional HEW 4 + 17% Superannuation 

  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University 

 

About the role 

This role will support the Student Life clubs program by assisting with the implementation of requirements arising from the University’s response to the National Higher Education Code of Prevent & Respond to GenderBased Violence.  
 

Working under the direction of the Clubs & Societies Program Coordinator, the role will help apply existing policies and procedures within the clubs context by coordinating resources, supporting training delivery, promoting reporting pathways, and ensuring required documentation and compliance activities are completed.  
 

A key outcome for the project is the creation and organisation of a practical suite of implementation resources for Student Life clubs.  

 

This fixed-term project position ends in December 2026 and provides targeted support for the one-off uplift necessary to meet new national obligations. 

 

To be successful in this position, you will have:   

  • Experience in a leadership capacity within a University student clubs program or relevant experience  

  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students and internal stakeholders. 

  • Ability to learn and apply processes relating to gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, child safety requirements and working with under-18 students. 

  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. 

  • Proven ability to work effectively as a flexible team member committed to achieving own and work team goals and priorities, and to continuous improvement.  

 

Experience in working accurately with detailed information and providing high-level administrative support in a University environment or similar large and complex organization is highly desirable. 

 

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check. 

 

About the Portfolio 

 The Education Portfolio is headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Vice President who leads the planning and implementation of the University’s strategies related to RMIT’s academic programs and the RMIT student experience. The Portfolio is responsible for services to support the quality of RMIT programs, including the professional development of academic staff, continuous improvement of the student experience, learning and teaching outcomes and the management of learning and research information sources.  

 

The Education Portfolio plays a key role in empowering students to access education, participate actively in the life of the University and achieve successful and fulfilling lives beyond graduation. The provision of a stimulating and satisfying experience for students is a priority for the University.
