Vacation Student : Geotechnical

The Opportunity:

As a participant in the Gold Fields Vacation Student Program, you will gain valuable exposure to the day-to-day operations of a leading mining business. Throughout the Summer, you’ll work alongside experienced technical professionals, developing practical skills and firsthand insight into the gold mining industry. The program provides a unique opportunity to apply the knowledge gained through your university studies in a real-world setting, while building the technical, professional, and problem-solving capabilities needed for a successful career. Through meaningful project involvement and on-site experience, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of mining operations and the role your discipline plays in delivering safe and sustainable outcomes.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Current driver’s licence (ideally manual license)


• In progress of completing your Tertiary Qualification in Engineering (Geotechnical/Mining or Civil) or Science (Geology/Engineering Geology)


• Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance


• Comfortable working 12 hour shifts in remote locations on a fly in, fly out roster

About the Role:

• Learn about a range of geotechnical tasks that support safe, efficient, and responsible mining outcomes while developing practical skills and professional capability.


• Observe professionals across Mine Technical functions


• Complete a project that will be valuable to the operation


• Broad exposure to operation to learn through observation about the mining cycle
