Duration: 12-month Traineeship

Join our team as a Water Industry Operations Trainee


 


Ready to roll up your sleeves and kick-start a career in the water industry? Looking to gain hands-on experience while learning from skilled professionals? Come and join the City Water team at Redland City Council.


 


As a Water Industry Operations Trainee, you’ll work alongside experienced mentors to develop practical, on-the-job skills in a hands-on environment. You’ll gain experience supporting the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater assets, while building the knowledge and capability to work safely and effectively in the field.


 


In this role, you’ll contribute to essential services that deliver over 14 billion litres of safe drinking water to more than 65,000 properties, and treat over 14 billion litres of wastewater each year. Throughout your traineeship, you’ll play a part in supporting reliable service delivery while developing valuable technical and industry skills.


 


This is a hands-on traineeship offering a strong pathway into the industry. You’ll gain real-world experience, work towards recognised qualifications, and build the foundation for a long-term career in the water industry.




 


Key Responsibilities:


 




  • Assist in the operation of Council’s eight treatment plants

  • Safely perform outdoor, hands-on manual tasks in a field-based environment

  • Learn to carry out laboratory sampling and testing to monitor treatment processes

  • Support the monitoring and protection of water sources and the environment

  • Follow safety procedures and contribute positively as part of a team

About You:
 
To be successful in this Traineeship, you will need to:
 



  • Enjoy working outdoors

  • Be committed, reliable and hardworking

  • Manage and prioritise tasks under pressure

  • Work effectively in a team and independently

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Be safety-conscious and willing to follow procedures


 
Role Requirements:
 



  • C class drivers licence and a reliable vehicle

  • Good physical fitness for manual tasks

  • Be willing to complete a pre-employment functional assessment (including drug and alcohol screening)

  • Previous experience in water operations or related fields (advantageous)
