Job Description - Social Worker - Health Justice Partnership - Part-Time

Are you a social worker passionate about improving the lives of individuals with mental health conditions through a health justice partnership?

• Do you seek a fulfilling part-time role (up to 22.5 hours per week) within a dynamic Community Legal Centre?

• Seeking the opportunity to practice in a dual service delivery model – working with a part-time solicitor

• Position contracted to 30/06/2025.

• Attractive remuneration between $47.50 - $49.65 per hour (Level 5 SCHADS), plus super and 17.5% leave loading.

• Benefit from salary sacrifice options – up to $15,900 per annum.

• Additional $2,650 of pre-tax income for entertainment (meals, holiday accommodation, etc.)

• 3 days pro-rata ex-gratia leave over the Christmas/New Year period.

Position Overview

As a social worker in our Health Justice Partnership, you'll assist individuals with mental health conditions, collaborating with a solicitor in a dual service delivery model. Acknowledging barriers like mobility issues, safety concerns, limited knowledge, cultural stigma, language hurdles, and hospitalisation, our person-centred approach ensures legal assistance is accessible by providing services within health-related settings.

Your duties involve maintaining the Mental Health Justice partnership, creating awareness and referral pathways, and establishing alliances with service providers. You'll provide short to medium-term casework and referral options, facilitating clients' access to TASC legal services, thus enhancing their life circumstances and overall well-being.

With a focus on upholding individuals' rights to live safely and inclusively, you'll also engage with the community to raise awareness about mental health issues and promote preventive measures.

Key Accountabilities

Deliver social work services in line with TASC’s policies and the Australian Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics 2020.

Conduct social assessments, safety planning, and provide ongoing support and referrals.

Develop case plans to optimise client outcomes.

Provide short-term counselling, access to services, and limited court/QCAT support.

Collaborate with agencies to offer information and develop referral pathways.

Advocate for clients through liaison and negotiation with various stakeholders.

Contribute to TASC’s policy and law reform submissions by highlighting relevant issues.

Prepare high-quality reports and maintain records for evaluation and reporting.

Manage service delivery scope with the Manager and health justice partnership solicitor.

Offer culturally competent services to a diverse client base.

Demonstrate understanding and commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and issues.

Pursue professional development to maintain and enhance your skills and knowledge.

Essential Requirements

Bachelor of Social Work or relevant qualification.

Eligibility for AASW membership or equivalent professional body in Australia.

Experience in providing social work services and managing caseloads.

Eligibility to obtain a Queensland Disability Worker Card based, working with children check (Blue Card) on mandatory criminal history screening.

Current Queensland open driver’s license.

Desirable Requirements

Experience working with individuals with mental health conditions.

Experience in counselling.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualities (Selection Criteria)

Demonstrated skills and knowledge in responding to complex client needs, including risk assessments and crisis interventions.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain rapport.

Ability to assist with report writing, submission preparation, and policy review.

Commitment to social justice and social change.

Capability to work independently and make autonomous practice decisions.

Proven ability to engage with various stakeholders and work effectively in the community sector.

Ability to develop and facilitate community education programs.

Capability to grow and develop the social work role within a legal context.

Proficiency in using computer applications such as Word, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
