Job Description - Clinical Forensic Medicine- Clinical Nurse Educator - Part-Time

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine is Australia’s most comprehensive forensic medical facility. About Us:

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) is an independent statutory authority governed by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine Act 1985 (the VIFM Act). It is part of the Justice portfolio of the Victorian Government. The work of the VIFM can be described as a cycle of three parts:

  • Providing forensic medical and scientific services and tissue banking
  • Learning from this work 
  • Researching and teaching.

The VIFM Act creates a joint position of Director of the VIFM and Professor of the Department of Forensic Medicine (DFM) at Monash University. The Director/Professor is responsible for the strategic direction and activities of the DFM, which is housed at the VIFM and operates under the governance of the Monash University Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. This position is within the Clinical Forensic Medicine.

About the Role:

The Clinical Nurse Educator leads the continuing professional development education for Forensic Nurse Examiners and work collaboratively with the NUM and Regional Coordinator to ensure the success of education programs and activities in Clinical Forensic Medicine.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Coordinating the delivery of the professional development days and other educational activities for nursing staff, including orientation for new nursing staff
  • Collaborating with the Nursing and medical leadership teams to ensure the forensic nurse is positively promoted and educated
  • Coordinating the induction/orientation programme for new nurses- (regional and metro starters).

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with NMBA administered through the AHPRA
  • Extensive experience working as a Forensic Nurse Examiner
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in personal Continuing Professional Development
  • Ability to lead, coordinate and facilitate education programs
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching nurses
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and evaluating education programs
  • Small or large group teaching experience

Desirable Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Experience working with Forensic Nurse Examiners.
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills
  • Post graduate training in nursing education, or working towards.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of Adult learning principles.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical education of others.
  • Ability to motivate, support and encourage staff to further develop clinical and professional skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based nursing practice and quality improvement.
