The Role: 

With this newly created role, brings an opportunity for motivated and suitably experienced Aboriginal Cultural Safety Trainer to join the team at Northern Health.

 

This role promotes respectful and relevant healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients. It involves educating hospital staff on Aboriginal cultures, histories, and experiences to combat biases and prejudices. The role also includes advising on policy adjustments for cultural inclusivity, fostering community engagement, and developing culturally appropriate resources. This position is essential in ensuring a culturally safe, understanding, and responsive hospital environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, ultimately leading to enhanced patient care and outcomes.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • In-depth knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and the social determinants of health.
  • Proven ability in conducting cultural training or workshops, especially in healthcare settings
  • Expertise in collecting and developing educational resources focused on cultural safety to enhance understanding and best practices
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Awareness of current policies related to Indigenous health and cultural safety.
