Job Description

  • 0.8 FTE, max-term until June 2026
  • Based on-site in the Yarra Ranges, on the lands of the Wurundjeri People, with regular outreach required across the region
  • $51.23 per hour negotiable + 12% Super + Generous Salary Packaging benefits of up to $18,550

Our AOD program supports people in the Yarra Ranges to navigate alcohol and drug concerns through free, confidential, and non-judgmental care. We meet people where they’re at—emotionally and physically—whether that’s at school, in the community, or on-site.

Please note: This is a community outreach role based at our Yarra Junction office and involves regular travel across the Yarra Ranges region, including weekly visits to local schools. Candidates should ensure they are comfortable with the geographic spread of the region and the travel this involves.

Your role, your impact 

As an AOD Counsellor, you'll play a vital role in providing recovery-focused, trauma-informed support for individuals impacted by alcohol and other drugs. You’ll draw on a range of modalities including CBT, ACT, schema therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing to help people work towards the life they want to live. No two days will be the same - whether you're providing 1:1 support, facilitating group work, or connecting with local services to ensure seamless care.

You’ll be working on:

  • Providing high-quality, client-centred AOD treatment and counselling (including forensic clients)
  • Supporting relapse prevention, brief interventions, and therapeutic group programs
  • Contributing to service development and continuous improvement
  • Coordinating care with GPs, mental health, welfare and other AOD providers
  • Maintaining accurate records, including case notes and data entry in TrakCare
  • Actively participating in team discussions, planning, and program development

Who we’re looking for 

A minimum Diploma in AOD is required. Additional qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or Dual Diagnosis are highly regarded.

What you’ll bring:

  • A passion for making a difference in the lives of people affected by AOD use
  • Experience supporting clients with co-occurring mental health and/or family violence concerns
  • A trauma-informed, harm-reduction approach to care
  • Skills in therapeutic modalities like CBT, ACT, and motivational interviewing
  • Strong communication, organisation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to build trust and offer hope to people from all walks of life
