About the role

The Assistant Finance Manager works closely with the Finance Manager to effectively and efficiently manage all aspects of the Association’s finances, with a particular focus on project accounting and support. The primary high-level responsibilities of this role include providing support to the Finance Manager to:

  • Ensure the Association meets all financial and legislative requirements.
  • Identify and implement operational improvement.
  • Assist with Annual Budget preparation and management.
  • Financial reconciliation, analysis, management reporting, and audit
  • Payroll
  • Accounts receivable and payable
  • Provide annual/personal leave relief to other members of the Finance Team
  • Other responsibilities appropriate to the role as requested by the Finance Manager.

The role will provide an opportunity to be exposed to a range of accounting functions and activities, including:

  • Project accounting
  • Financial reporting and audit
  • Payroll
  • Accounts receivable and payable
  • Assisting Scout Groups with their accounting obligations
  • Annual budgeting
  • Operational improvement projects

About you

Specialist skills and knowledge required for role

  • Demonstrated experience of five years or more with financial and/or management accounting, preferably in the Not-for-Profit sector.
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or business systems and technology.

  • Ability to engage with and respond to the needs of a diverse range of stakeholders, including volunteers within the Movement
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively
  • Ability to develop and implement process improvements
  • Highly self-motivated and responsive
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight timeframes
  • Ability to work flexibly and responsively
  • Passionate about working in the Not-for-Profit sector, particularly in the area of youth development.

This position requires the staff member to:

  • Adhere to the Scouts Australia Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics for Adults in Scouting
  • Possess a valid Blue Card for employees

Flexible Work

Given the volunteer nature of Scouting, the role will occasionally be required to provide support outside of normal business hours and or on weekends. Flexible working arrangements, including the option to work from home from time to time. will be negotiated to reflect this commitment.
