Job Description - Biobank Coordinator

Role type: Fixed term for 12 months, 0.8 FT  
Faculty: Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Sciences
Department/ School: Department of Infectious Diseases
Salary: UoM 6.1 $100,847 to $ 109,163 p.a. (pro rata) plus 17% super

As a Clinical Trial Biobank Coordinator at the Doherty Institute, you will have the opportunity to coordinate the establishment and governance of a multi-site biobank for the SNAP Trial, a ground-breaking international study. You will manage sample logistics, develop governance frameworks, and liaise with laboratories worldwide, gaining invaluable experience in global research collaboration. This role offers a chance to make a significant impact on infectious disease treatment and contribute to a prestigious research community.

Your responsibilities will include:  

  • Establish and Maintain Sample Governance Structure: Develop a framework for sample recall, storage, access, and transfer, within regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate Biobank Operations: Manage partnerships with laboratories, oversee sample logistics, and maintain shipping logs and SOPs.
  • Support Laboratory Data Management: Assist with database tasks, ensure data integrity, and contribute to laboratory data management plans.
  • Liaise with Stakeholders: Communicate with internal and external laboratories, ensuring proper sample processing and documentation.

You may be a great fit if:  

You will have experience in clinical trials and sample curation, possess excellent communication skills, and thrive in collaborative research environments, ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.

You may also:  

  • Have completed an Honours or higher degree with relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate experience in clinical sample management.
  • Possess strong administrative skills in a research setting.
  • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.

The Department of Infectious Diseases is a recently established department of the Melbourne Medical School, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences that is based at The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (Doherty Institute). Research within the department encompasses infectious diseases including antimicrobial resistance and healthcare associated infections, malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, influenza, viral hepatitis, sexually-transmitted infections, skin pathogens and emerging infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Our researchers come from diverse backgrounds, including discovery research and basic scientists, clinician researchers, epidemiologists, public health physicians and microbiologists.
